Philippine Political System
20070708

During the past campaigning periods, every candidate running for a position would say that they’d do their best to improve our country and fight for each person’s rights. After they get elected, promises are broken; nothing gets better except for the politician’s bank account. This is the Philippine’s Political System for you. They say it is democratic but I think it’s this system that is degrading our country and its citizens.

Every politician faces their biggest temptation when they get to see the financial report of the tax payers. Maybe they’d try to resist this temptation, but the story usually ends the same way for most of them. These politicians actually get some of the money. No, it doesn’t matter if it was only a small amount or if he returns the amount that he got later; the point is, you still stole the money that wasn’t for you. It was for the betterment of the citizens and not for your funds to get your son or daughter a new house. Because of this, funds are lost for housing projects, feeding the poor, the street children and maintaining the city or even the country! I think that corruption of the politicians is definitely a primary cause of poverty. A corrupt official’s mansion in Ayala Subdivision would have been enough to house maybe 10 families and get children to go to school.

Poverty causes a lot of problems to the country. It increases the crime rate and health and safety risk. A politician’s dishonest actions could definitely cause these two. Because of the desperation of some citizens, they are left to steal or worse, kill, for money and food. They are sent to jail and have the worst life while the politician and his family go to a vacation in Paris.

Despite all of the things I’ve said, I still do believe that there are politicians who do try to make this place better for us. I just can’t help but to take all of my frustrations out on the corrupt and unfair officials who are having the time of their lives while some are left rotten out on the streets.
